Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
