The British tennis star secured the most notable win of his professional journey by coming back from a set down to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Although he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this win represents Norrie's first ever success over a sitting world No 1.

"Massive. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who is now the latest UK male player in the record books to beat a global number one. "Coming back from injury last year, I fell in the first round of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to appreciate my game in the closing months of the year. To get a win like this, it's the biggest success of my career, my maiden triumph over the top player and probably the most in-form player in the tennis scene right now."

Norrie, ranked 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's dominant run of nine straight final appearances and 17 straight elite tournament successes, which represented the best series of results in the Spaniard's developing career.

The top seed seemed to be progressing easily to success at the start as he eased past the opening set. However, the British contender slowly battled back into contention by executing with improved accuracy and pulling the Spanish opponent into extended, grueling points.
