Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left leg post-delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The England team indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, managing only three wickets.

He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
