The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general told a news show that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
