The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
